Old fonts were created in between the 15th and 18th century. These were mostly roman fonts that included strokes that were curved and axis inclined towards the left side. The only relief is that these fonts have been digitized and are available as free fonts on the web today. Few of these fonts are – Bembo, ITC Berkeley, ITC Legacy, Sabon Next, Monotype Garamond, Stempel Schneidler and ITC Galliard. Bembo originated in the 15th century and was created by the Italian Renaissance printers. It has four weights with italics. Small caps and old figures appear in this font. As a result, they are useful in book design and advertising. Frederic W. Goudy created ITC Berkeley in the year 1938. However, Oldstyle ITC Berkeley was formed in 1983 after Tony Stan redrew it. This font also has four weights with italics and is used in magazines and hoarding display. Ronald Arnholm designed ITC Legacy in the year 1982. Through this font, he paid homage to Nicholas Jenson’s roman font. The weights range from ultra to book and condensed ones from ultra to extra light. Old figures are included in some of these weights. This entire family of font can be used for graphic projects. Jean Francois created Sabon Next in 2002. It consists of six weights and is versatile. Weights include ornaments, ligatures and swashes. Monotype Garamond was derived from the Garamond style. Two roman and italic designs are part of this font. Alternate characters and small capitals also are represented in this font. It is distinctive and used for large sizes. Stempel Schneidler is a representation of beauty and classic fonts. Consists of five weights and is seen in text designs. ITC Galliard is a reinterpretation of Granjon’s work. It consists of old linings and has weights with italics. It is bold and roman with caps.
